Thinking: no matter what you think about computer games one thing is for sure it will make your child think. This is much different than the console type games that involve only mindless shooting and running around.
Focus: once a computer game gets your child's attention, it is an excellent exercise to help him focus his mind. Many children go from one thing to the next, but computer games can teach your child to remain focused even when other things are going on. Sometimes the games are so good the child does not even realize the TV is on or other things are going on in the home.
Decision-making: of course when your child is young he does not make very many decisions on his own. By allowing him to play the computer games he is forced to make decisions often and as the opportunity to realize the consequences of those decisions.
Dexterity: having your child become used to reacting to circumstances, is a skill that is hard to teach. However, the computer games are an excellent tutorial and your child will inevitably learn how to react to changing conditions.
Computer skills: of course, all children's and they will need to know computers, there is absolutely no question about this. The earlier they start, the more comfortable they will be when it comes time to use those skills in the real world. The more exposure your child has to computers, the better off he will be later in life.
Learning: many of these things are great learning tools for math and language. During one part of the game you may have to solve a math problem to continue while in another part of the game you may have to spell the word that the computer reads to you.
Tasks: your child will be given difficult tasks to complete and only persistence and hard work will get him through. The games are a great way to teach your child that he can accomplish things if he works hard enough and does not lose interest.
Alone: it is absolutely critical to a childs development to spend some time per day completely alone. This does not mean that you cannot keep an eye on him, just that he should be away from you with no interaction. This teaches him confidence and a host of other qualities that everyone should have.
