When you consider the current state of education, as well as the dangers, the notion of keeping kids in school for the social benefits is highly questionable. The well publicized violent events we've referred to are just the most extreme examples of a widespread problem. Considering this, as long as the parents are dedicated, it's hard to see how home schooling isn't a better alternative in most cases. Children who are educated at home can potentially experience a far greater diversity of life than those stuck in a classroom. it's quite simple for parents to provide their kids with many valuable lessons in the form of trips, cultural events and hands on experiences.

Kids may be used to talking to their own family members, but this isn't the same as meeting new people. That's one advantage of school -it forces a child to cope in an unfamiliar place and learn how to interact with a new group of people.

Parents who home school may be under financial pressure when it comes to signing up their kids for the various social activities in their area, many of which cost money to participate in. So in cases where the parents simply don't have the money for such opportunities, the kids are deprived of the chance to meet other kids their own age. Another potential complication occurs when home schooled kids feel they are missing something by not attending a public school. This is why parents shouldn't guard their kids too much from the outside world, as this can end up having the opposite of the desired effect.

There seems to be a trade-off in the degree of socialization, but there are other considerations as well. The homeschooler is spared the often highly negative types of social encounters found at public and private schools. The damaging effects of an institutional school environment can make that reason very significant. This would be true for those at a public school who would be at a social disadvantage. There are positive and healthy advantages experienced in schooling at home.

In many cases, children who are home schooled enjoy many undeniable advantages. Yet in order to provide children with all of the skills they need in life, parents must be especially vigilant. Children must be given every opportunity to develop socially, as this is something everyone needs. Home schooled children whose parents understand this should have no problems learning the social skills they need to function in the world.
