The first thing you have to remember is that everyone has different learning style. This is why one tip might not work for everyone. Three major learning styles are visual, auditory, and kinesthetic. You need to know which your major learning style is so you can study effectively.
If you have visual learning style, then you will learn better when you see something or read something. Browsing the internet and library to look for new source of information is a good if you are a visual learner. Drawing pictures and taking notes are other things you can do to learn faster.
Perhaps you learn best when you are listening. In this case, you probably have the auditory learning style. You need to pay attention to your teachers' explanation in classes. You might also want to join a discussion or study group to learn better. Some people choose to study with background music to help them concentrate.
People with kinesthetic learning style need to actively do something to learn effectively. They learn better when they finish projects, working at something at the labs, moving around, or doing their homework. The key is you need to be active and try things by yourself if you want to learn effectively.
Whatever your learning style is, you need to set apart some time for studying. Time management skill is important if you want to succeed in your academic life. Some people learn best in the morning and some people study more effectively at night. Do not let anything distract you during this period so you can fully concentrate. This way you learn a lot faster with better results than if you let things distract you.
A lot of people have a problem with procrastination. This is a habit you should avoid if you want succeed in every aspect of your life. Cramming all the lessons you need to memorize the night before the test is not part of good study skills for high school and college students. You will only stressed yourself out.
